Course Description

In this immersive and advanced-level course, you will hone your writing skills and refine your narrative voice in creative non-fiction. Through readings, workshopping, writing assignments, and instructor feedback, you will craft and revise creative work in a non-fiction form of your choice. Whether you are writing a memoir, examining real-life issues, or interweaving both, this course will help you craft publishable creative non-fiction that resonates with readers.

What You'll Learn

Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to:

  1. Incorporate various literary devices, including dialogue, description, character development, imagery, sound, and rhythm, into your creative non-fiction writing.
  2. Offer constructive feedback in writing workshops as well as receive and incorporate constructive critique to strengthen and refine your writing.
  3. Plan, plot, and develop one significant piece of creative non-fiction (personal essay, memoir, literary journalism, biography).
  4. Navigate ethical challenges and responsibilities in creative non-fiction, including balancing truthful storytelling while respecting others’ privacy and consent.
  5. Develop habits and strategies for continuing to grow as a creative non-fiction writer.

Registration closes on January 20, 2027 (if there is availability).

This course will be delivered remotely on Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, beginning on January 14th, 2027 using CourseLink your course website, and live video conferencing. You will be required to participate in the live conferencing sessions each Thursday evening.

*If one or more classes need to be rescheduled due to extenuating circumstances, the rescheduled class will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2027, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm (or portion thereof).

Further information will be provided after registration. It is the student's responsibility to be sure you have the technical requirements to participate in this course including having available:
