Course Description

In this advanced course, you will build your skills in writing across fiction genres for diverse audiences. You will dive more deeply into narrative and literary techniques and revise and refine your writing. You will join a community of writers and participate in intensive workshops and writing exercises that will hone your writing craft and unique voice. At the end of the course, you will have developed a portfolio of distinctive story ideas and creative work as well as an understanding of how to publish professionally. 

What You'll Learn

Upon successfully completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Apply literary techniques for writing strong prose and convincing dialogue.
  2. Create characters with distinct voices and motivations.
  3. Demonstrate the use of creative writing elements in your own writing by creating and revising written material.
  4. Explore and apply literary conventions of various fiction sub-genres by tailoring storytelling approaches to engage readers.
  5. Prepare a final portfolio of 20-30 pages that demonstrates engagement in prose fiction across at least 2 sub-genres.

Registration closes on January 18, 2027 (if there is availability).

This course will be delivered remotely on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, beginning on January 12th, 2027 using CourseLink your course website, and live video conferencing. You will be required to participate in the live conferencing sessions each Tuesday evening.

*If one or more classes need to be rescheduled due to extenuating circumstances, the rescheduled class will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm (or portion thereof).

Further information will be provided after registration. It is the student's responsibility to be sure you have the technical requirements to participate in this course including having available:
