Course Description

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to insect pest management in turfgrass systems. Students will learn to identify key turf pests, monitor their activity, and apply effective control strategies. Emphasizing an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, the course focuses on sustainable, environmentally responsible practices that support turf health and long-term management goals.  

What You'll Learn

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify key insect pests in turfgrass systems and assess their impact on turf health.  
  • Interpret pesticide labels, safety protocols, and environmental regulations related to insecticides.   
  • Evaluate and apply cultural, biological, and chemical insect control methods.  
  • Utilize pest monitoring tools to assess infestation levels and determine treatment thresholds.  
  • Implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies for insect control.  
  • Explain insect life cycles and how they influence management decisions.
