Course Description
For engineers working in design, manufacturing, and process risk management, and for organizations in regulated or quality-critical industries, this micro-credential builds the ability to systematically assess risk, align quality with customer requirements, and prevent failures that can lead to defects, recalls, or compliance issues.
Learn how to translate the Voice of the Customer (VOC) into actionable quality plans and proactively identify where and how systems can fail before they occur. The course develops practical skills in structured risk and failure analysis tools, including Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), to systematically identify failure modes, their causes, and their downstream effects. In addition, you will apply sampling and auditing methods, along with Cost of Quality (CoQ) analysis, to quantify performance gaps and evaluate the financial and operational impact of defects and failures.
By the end of the course, you will be able to identify, diagnose, and address sources of failure risk in real industrial systems, improve process reliability, and strengthen compliance and quality assurance practices. These capabilities are essential in industries such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive, and pharmaceuticals, where preventing failures is critical to safety, certification, and product performance.

- Construct and analyze Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) diagrams to evaluate system risks and failure modes
- Use Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify, evaluate, and prioritize potential risks in a process or system
- Select and apply appropriate sampling techniques including random, stratified, systematic, and lot sampling for quality assessment
- Plan and conduct internal quality audits using standardized checklists and audit procedures
- Perform introductory Cost of Quality (CoQ) analysis to identify and classify quality-related costs
