Course Description

Whether you're an engineer building your core toolkit or part of a team looking to raise its quality capability across the board, this micro-credential gives you the practical skills to analyze and improve any process you touch. Build core skills in analyzing and improving processes and learn how to define and measure quality and how quality control, assurance, improvement, and management work together in practice.

Through case studies and practical exercises, you will use the seven basic quality tools, introductory statistical process control methods, and root cause analysis techniques — the same techniques used daily on production floors and in operations teams to catch problems early and prove improvements work. You'll also gain experience with process capability analysis to assess whether a process can reliably meet requirements.

By the end of this course, you will be able to monitor, analyze, and identify opportunities to improve processes using essential quality engineering tools and techniques. These skills can be applied across a wide range of industries to identify quality issues, reduce process variation, and drive continuous improvement.

What You'll Learn

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Define quality and describe key performance dimensions used to assess products and processes
  • Differentiate between quality control, quality assurance, quality improvement, and quality management functions
  • Apply the seven basic quality tools to identify, monitor, and interpret process and product-related issues
  • Perform root cause analysis using cause-and-effect and Pareto techniques to support quality problem solving 
  • Interpret control charts to assess process behavior and determine process stability  
  • Calculate process capability indices and evaluate their implications for process performance

  • High school diploma or equivalent; no prior experience in quality engineering is required.
