Course Description

This course will introduce students to learning theory as a foundation for success for university study. The course provides an overview of learning and developmental theories, metacognitive strategies and problem-solving. Students will connect theory to practical experiences that promote self-efficacy and resilience.

What You'll Learn

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  •  Apply learning theories and techniques to your own learning process to enhance comprehension and retention of course materials
  • Incorporate personal strategies for effective time and academic stress management into your learning routine
  • Establish professional communication strategies to interact respectfully and clearly with peers and instructors in both written and verbal forms
  • Use appropriate writing techniques, critical thinking skills and research strategies to complete assessments
  • Explain the University's policy on academic integrity and how to avoid plagiarism and academic misconduct during your university career
  • Describe how Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion can be used in your university experience to support the institution's commitment to an open, respectful and inclusive culture
