Course Description

This course teaches students about negotiation theory in addition to practical strategies and styles that can improve their conflict management and negotiation skills. The course covers conflict management from a variety of perspectives, including as first party and as third party skills.

What You'll Learn

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate familiarity with some of the major concepts, principles, and research findings related to negotiation
  • Critically apply negotiation theory and knowledge broadly at work and in life
  • Communicate to manage conflict and negotiate effectively
  • Discuss the nature of conflict and negotiation in fostering individual, group, and organizational success
  • Apply self-reflective practice to understand yourself and others better in the context of negotiation and conflict
  • Discuss the costs/benefits, including ethical implications, of using various conflict management and negotiation techniques
  • Tailor your own conflict and negotiation behaviors to the demands of the situation
