Course Description

Using an integrated approach to studying leadership, this foundation course covers history, evolving theories, models, and research both from a theoretical point of view and practical application. This course will use a seminar style with applied workshops, class discussions, guest speakers, and student participation. Students will prepare elements of a skills portfolio and a research paper. This is a required course for the Certificate in Leadership.

Note: This course may be taken individually or as a part of a certificate or diploma program.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

  1. Examine historical and contemporary leadership theories, concepts, and approaches, including their evolution and relevance to diverse environments.
  2. Apply leadership theories and concepts effectively to analyze real-world case scenarios and engage in practical activities.
  3. Analyze and critically reflect on your leadership experiences, values, and expectations to gain insights into your personal leadership style and areas for growth.
  4. Evaluate the role of ethics and values in leadership decisions and behaviours.
  5. Examine how leaders can effectively respond to challenges and opportunities arising from technological, cultural, and organizational change.
