FRHD*3190 - Administration and Leadership in Early Childhood Education and Care
Course Description
This course examines the roles, responsibilities, and leadership practices of administrators in early childhood education and care settings. Emphasis is placed on the development and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures, effective management of human and financial resources, and responsive communication within multidisciplinary teams. Attention will also be given to quality assurance, ethical decision-making, and the ongoing professional growth of early childhood leaders.
What You'll Learn
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the administrative and pedagogical responsibilities of leading an early learning program in Ontario (including development of appropriate policies and procedures, management of human and financial resources, and program development and evaluation) and their impact on structure and quality
- Examine the impact of relevant legislation, regulations, professional and ethical standards, funding, administrative practices, and research on the development and leadership of early learning programs
- Contribute to a collaborative learning environment by using professional and effective communication while interacting with colleagues in a Professional Learning Community
- Apply principles of effective leadership through the design and delivery of collaborative peer learning experiences
- Display skills in self-evaluation and reflective practice in order to support lifelong learning, professional ethics, and evidence-informed practices in the early years sector
- Engage in advocacy efforts that promote quality early learning programs and advance the well-being of children and families
