Course Description

This course covers an introduction to computer hardware and software, data organization, problem-solving and programming. The course includes exposure to application packages for personal and business use and is intended for students who wish a balance between programming and the use of software packages.

What You'll Learn

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Articulate the importance of computer fluency in contemporary society
  • Identify and describe the functions of computer hardware and peripheral devises
  • Describe when and how the Internet evolved
  • Examine the use of mobile devices in both business and private settings
  • Discuss and apply basic computer networking solutions
  • Effectively use word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software
  • Identify and compare the uses of various databases

Additional Requirements

Restriction(s): CIS*1000. Not available to students registered in a B.Comp degree or a CIS minor.
