Course Description

This course introduces the principles and practices of managing turfgrass diseases. Students will learn to identify and diagnose common diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, and viruses, and explore control methods using an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. Emphasis is placed on cultural, biological, and chemical strategies that support sustainable turf health.  

What You'll Learn

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify common turfgrass diseases and assess their impact on turf health.  
  • Explain the disease triangle and factors contributing to disease outbreaks.  
  • Diagnose turf diseases using visual symptoms and diagnostic tools.  
  • Apply Integrated Disease Management (IDM) strategies to prevent and control turf diseases. 
  • Evaluate and implement cultural, biological, and chemical disease control methods.  
  • Interpret fungicide labels, safety guidelines, and resistance management strategies.  

Additional Requirements

  • This course is intended for adult learners who are at least 18 years of age. 
  • There are no prerequisites for this course 
  • You can expect to spend 8 to 12 hours per week to complete the course content, readings, activities, discussions and assignments.
