Course Description

This course will introduce students to learning theory as a foundation for success for university study. The course provides an overview of learning and developmental theories, metacognitive strategies and problem-solving. Students will connect theory to practical experiences that promote self-efficacy and resilience.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

  1.  Apply learning theories and techniques to your own learning process to enhance comprehension and retention of course materials
  2. Incorporate personal strategies for effective time and academic stress management into your learning routine.
  3. Establish professional communication strategies to interact respectfully and clearly with peers and instructors in both written and verbal forms.
  4. Use appropriate writing techniques, critical thinking skills and research strategies to complete assessments.
  5. Explain the University's policy on academic integrity and how to avoid plagiarism and academic misconduct during your university career.
  6. Describe how Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion can be used in your university experience to support the institution's commitment to an open, respectful and inclusive culture.
