Course Description

An introduction to the examination of the characteristics of gender relationships both historically and cross-culturally. Amongst the emphases are theoretical approaches to gender analysis, methodologies, case studies and attention to themes such as class and stratification, race and ethnicity, identities and global restructuring as these shape gender dynamics.

What You'll Learn

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

  • Critically engage with concepts of social identities.
  • Read and assess scholarly articles, in terms of their argument, assumptions, benefits, and limitations.
  • Produce academic writing that is critical, analytical, and reflective of your own interests.
  • Engage in (and enjoy!) critical thinking about the social world that you exist within and reflect on how the complexities of gender can be understood, questioned, embraced, resisted, and so on.
