Course Description

Using an integrated approach to studying leadership, this foundation course covers history, evolving theories, models, and research both from a theoretical point of view and practical application. This course will use a seminar style with applied workshops, class discussions, guest speakers, and student participation. Students will prepare elements of a skills portfolio and a research paper. This is a required course for the Certificate in Leadership.

Note: This course may be taken individually or as a part of a certificate or diploma program.

What You'll Learn

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Examine historical and contemporary leadership theories, concepts, and approaches, including their evolution and relevance to diverse environments
  • Apply leadership theories and concepts effectively to analyze real-world case scenarios and engage in practical activities
  • Analyze and critically reflect on your leadership experiences, values, and expectations to gain insights into your personal leadership style and areas for growth
  • Evaluate the role of ethics and values in leadership decisions and behaviours
  • Examine how leaders can effectively respond to challenges and opportunities arising from technological, cultural, and organizational change
